Common Blue Violet:
The common blue violet (left) usually flowers in spring, but occasionally later in the season. Can be found at low to mid elevations in a wide variety of places. The leaves and flowers are attached directly to roots. Violets hybridize freely making them difficult to identify with certainty.
Smooth Yellow Violet:
Smooth Yellow Violet (right) is common in moist, deciduous woods. Height ranges from 4"-12". Look for this violet in March & April at elevations up to 2500'.

Violets:
These violets were found in the middle of April at Cove Hardwood Nature Trail located off Highway 441 at the Chimney's Picnic Area (GSM). This trail is one of the best for early spring flowers.
